Just in case anyone was interested, I made this collage of the intermediate steps before I uploaded my last image. I do an initial render without lights in order to check for poke-through or any other weirdness that might not be apparent in the work space. Then I add lights. Usually I use one or two standard lights, then add UberEnvironment, depending on the look I'm looking for. This one used one distant light and UE. I did notice, though, the UE seems to have changed once I upgraded to 3.1. Then, once I'm happy with the lights (usually after several renders) I open it up in PhotoShop and go to work. For this one, I decreased the contrast somewhat, shaded the wall near the top to give it some depth, lightened the carpet and her body shaper to show detail, then did some dodging (or is it burning?) on her leg to give it the sheen of real stockings. Then I did my soft-focus thing and stamped it with the Two Sheds logo, and I was done.
